Germany is a pretty big country when it's all said and done. Sure it's not quite as big as Australia or the United States in terms of land mass but it's still up there for things to do. You see Germany has a long history. Even though it may not have been known as Germany all the time, many of the towns and cities in the country go back over a 1000 years. So if you plan to vacation in Germany, you won't be spoiled for things to do.
One of the first things you might think of doing ids to take in the beer festival in Munich. That's not a bad call as it's a unique experience that you probably won't get anywhere else in the world. Sure, plenty of other countries have exported the idea of a beer festival but nothing can quite top the original and best in Munich, in my opinion.
You will meet many German people there in extremely good form. Hmm..let me pnder that one ? Possibly it is the vast quantity of the amber liquid that is quenched in a short amount of time. However it's more likely the way it is consumed than anything else.
You have to pay to get into the festival grounds which consists of many large halls and tents. There is not much to a hall or tent, in fact there are only three parts to them. The first is a fast supply of beer, the second is music or some form of entertainment and the third is many large tables with benches. The table and benches where you drink beer make people sit together and help to break the ice with strangers. My experience is that you soon make friends. And due to the world famous nature of the festival you will meet many people from all over the world including one or two from your own country too.
At the height of the festival there are so many people that you have to get to your favorite hall or tent early on. If you don't get in early, say mid morning, you may not get a place on a table and have to sit outside (which is not bad when the weather is good). After that it's some serious drinking with a bit a scran thrown into the mix. The best scran has to be the sausages – ordinary or white sausages (cheese). Ok, it's not a la carte but it tastes great with beer. You can also get staples of German cuisine like pretzels and sauerkraut.
There is plenty ot see and do in Germany and high on that list is the Munich beer festival. It's known as Oktoberfest but it starts late in September and runs through to the beginning of October. If you are lucky enough to be in Munich around that time you owe it to yourself to spend a day drinking some beer. And once you've gotten over the hangover…there is plenty more to see and do in Munich.
